Since the late 2000s, the manga had been published on an irregular basis with the author taking frequent hiatuses until his death on May 6, 2021. In June 2016, Hakusensha's Jets Comics imprint was rebranded as Young Animal Comics and the first thirty-seven volumes of Berserk were re-published with new cover arts.
